Ion-Selective Separation Using MXene-Based Membranes: A Review

چکیده

Global lack of clean water makes it essential that new technologies are developed for separation pollutants from raw water. Membrane has arisen as a promising solution among other conventional liquid-separation processes, such evaporation, distillation, and crystallization. Synthetic polymer membranes have been emphasized an important component in liquid processes due to their outstanding water/salt selectivity ionic conductivity. However, inherent trade-off between permeability remained challenge polymeric membranes. Recently, two-dimensional nanomaterials actively sought after alternative MXene, type nanomaterial, attracting considerable attention building block nanostructured Due several appealing features, surface functional groups with negative charge, they used size-, charge-, adsorption-selective different ions or molecules. This article reviews recent progress MXene-based membranes, particular emphasis on ion-selective applications purification including salt rejection, reverse electrodialysis, heavy metal adsorption. Lastly, the challenges future directions discussed.
